For Executive Affiliate Chris Messenger of Mississauga, Ontario, the Bod•ē Challenge has become a powerful way to invite health and wellness into the lives of others. “The thing people love most about the Bod•ē program is its simplicity,” says Chris, who overcame significant weight issues after his hockey career ended prematurely.** “After getting healthy myself, I spent 10 years training professional athletes. Just before the season started, I’d give them a detailed exercise program, specific foods they’d eat, and a list of supplements to buy. It was complicated!” During that time, Chris discovered that the reason athletes came back to him year after year was because of the accountability he gave them. “When you combine the ease and simplicity of the Bod•ē program with support and accountability you’d get from a trainer, you’ve got a winner. That’s why there are so many people joining the Bod•ē Challenge in Canada — we’ve got these great products, the app from Chris and Heidi, and we’ve learned how to support people one on one.”
The personal approach to fitness and weight loss
“I know what it’s like to find yourself overweight and out of shape, and I have the stretch marks to prove it,” says Chris. He was a hockey player shooting for pro until he sustained a serious knee injury. “After I busted my knee out, I knew I couldn’t ever make it to the NHL. I was in a bad place for a while, hating everything and not really taking care of my health. I gained a lot of weight, climbing up to 260 pounds. I made a decision to get healthy again and since losing 65 pounds, I’ve never gone above 200 again,” says Chris, who now has the lean, toned physique of a lifetime fitness guru.** “After that, I went back to college, eventually getting three degrees, and started training professional athletes and teaching school gym classes. I guess I figured if I can’t go pro myself, I’ll help other people get there.”
The right attitude for success
Chris did extremely well as a trainer — he was always booked up — and part of that came because he understood where people were coming from. “Sometimes we slip up and get out of shape and find ourselves in a bad spot. I’ve been there myself — I was that fat kid once — and I had to learn how to get back into shape.” With Vemma, Chris now has the chance to put to good use the skills he learned helping hockey players get back into shape as he helps people take control of their health with Bod•ē. “The Bod•ē program comes with so much support, from the app, to food recommendations at fast food places to grocery lists. If the athletes I worked with had wanted grocery lists every week, I’d have added an extra $20k per year. This is just an amazing system we have.”
Chris says success often comes down to having support and the right attitude. “I’ve worked a lot with Dr. Stelios Nikolakakis, and he started sending a positive email out every day to everyone on the Bod•ē program. Then everyone is supposed to send a positive email or text back — how good you felt exercising, or something like that. We’ve found that by eliminating the negative and focusing on the positive, there’s so much success and momentum building with the Bod•ē program.”
Taking the Challenge personally
Chris is one to lead by example first. He says you can’t teach what you don’t live, and that definitely applies to the Bod•ē Challenge. “Despite all I know about health and wellness, I found myself gaining weight again this year because of all the traveling I’ve been doing for my business,” he says. “So I started on the Bod•ē Challenge 10 weeks ago. At this point, I’ve lost 15 pounds and I’m feeling great!”**
Chris says one of the best perks of his Vemma business is watching the changes that come into people’s lives. “I’ve seen people make some big changes and achieve amazing goals — both health and financial — and that’s exciting. I’ve seen people lose weight, get fit, and achieve the time freedom to enjoy it all.
Looking forward to a healthy, hopping 2014
Having built his business to Executive by helping people transform their lives, Chris Messenger has really caught the vision of the Bod•ē program. He says the exciting thing is that even with all the success they’ve seen in Canada, the momentum with Bod•ē is just getting started. “I see great things ahead for Vemma,” he says. “The ready-to-drink Bod•ē Shake coming out next year will be huge, and Vemma Renew is the best-tasting nutritional drink I’ve ever tried. I’m looking forward to an awesome 2014!”
Success Tips from Chris Messenger
**Results not typical, you may not do as well. Two pilot studies conducted by Vemma showed that 55 participants who followed the Vemma Bod•ē Transformation Plan for 12 weeks using Vemma Bod•ē Burn, Bod•ē Rest and Bod•ē Cleanse, lost an average of 14.8 pounds. Not all participants will complete the plan, or accurately follow the directions and guidelines of the plan. Vemma Nutrition Company recommends you follow a healthy approach to weight loss by consulting with your physician or healthcare provider before starting any new exercise, diet plan, nutrition or supplementation program, particularly if you suffer from any medical condition or regularly use prescription or over-the-counter medications. The Vemma Bod•ē products as part of the Vemma Bod•ē Transformation Plan should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and 10 minutes of daily exercise.

Success Tips from Chris Messenger
- Set an example. You can’t teach something you aren’t willing to do yourself. I got a little out of shape this past year, so I started the Bod•ē Challenge two and a half months ago and I’ve now lost 15 pounds.**
- Find out what people’s health goals are. A lot of people on our team aren’t taking the Challenge to lose weight, but to live a healthy lifestyle.
- Don’t assume young people aren’t interested in being healthy.
- Ask all of your team members on the Bod•ē program to send one positive email or text to the group daily.
- Use the Bod•ē app. It really gives me the structure I need to stay in shape, and it keeps me on my toes. If I’m on the road and I have to eat out, I can use the Bod•ē app to find out the healthiest options. And if there is nothing healthy available, I always keep some Bod•ē Shake in my car.
