Before joining Vemma, Presidential Affiliates Robert and Jana Montiero of Brentwood, California, had climbed to the top of the corporate world as C-level executives. However, they realized that planning for retirement would require more than a successful corporate career. “In corporate America, you rent an income,” says Robert, a COO at a multimillion-dollar logistics company. “It can stop at any time. That’s something we’ve learned over the years. The appeal of Vemma is that you have the opportunity to build a residual income that will last.” Recognizing the unique opportunity Vemma offers, Robert and Jana have built a successful business together part time while working in highly demanding corporate careers.
Fallback at 40
Robert admits that he and Jana may never have considered building an affiliate marketing business if they hadn’t taken some heavy hits during the recession. “I make high multiple six figures a year as a COO, and Jana ran the logistics company we owned, so until the recession we thought we had great jobs and a comfortable retirement ahead,” he says. “But then in 2008 we lost a lot of money in real estate investments.” Along with a big chunk of their retirement, they also lost their logistics company. “It was devastating. It just woke me up. At that point I was 40 years old. We’d been through something like this in our 20s, but I never thought I’d find myself in the same place in my 40s. That’s when I started looking into the industry and finding opportunities.”
The Montieros found success with several companies over the next five years, developing a system to streamline the business into the time they had available after regular working hours. Last year, Robert heard that Anthony Powell had joined Vemma, and that got his attention. “We weren’t at the same company, but Anthony is a real icon in the industry. I started checking out Vemma and four other companies, and Vemma won out. Vemma has clinical studies, and we love the products. So Jana and I started with Vemma last fall, and since then we’ve built to Presidential.* We feel so blessed to be part of Vemma!”
Experts at time management
“If we can fit the business into our lives, anyone can,” says Robert, who works 10‒12 hour days in his corporate career. “People think I do this full time, but I come home around 7 or 8, and that’s when we start working our Vemma business. Vemma doesn’t feel like a job though. It’s a lot of fun.” He and Jana are determined and set daily goals for themselves, like introducing the business to 30 new people a day. Robert’s specialty is teaching and training, which is where his corporate background comes in handy, and he works hard to help people succeed with Vemma. “I’ve found that if new people aren’t making money within the first five days, they are more likely to disengage.* So that makes training critical.”
Finding flexibility with Vemma
Jana says that since they’ve built the business alongside demanding corporate careers, Vemma’s flexibility is particularly appealing to them. “What I love about Vemma is that we are truly able to build a business from home part time around our very busy schedules,” she says. “And what I love most is that we are able to help others do the same.” Robert says they haven’t enjoyed this kind of flexibility in the past. “We run our Vemma business primarily through three-way calls and one regional event a month. But in previous companies, it wasn’t like this. We were driving 40,000 miles a year going to all the meetings. We didn’t have time for our family.” Robert says he loves building the business with his wife and that they complement each other’s strengths. “I couldn’t do it without her,” he says. Their children have also jumped in with the YPR group, including their 23-year-old son Ryan, who’s a Diamond. “Ryan’s Vemma income takes care of his car payment.* My daughter is also building a business.”
Bright future ahead with Vemma
Robert, Jana and their family all enjoy Vemma products and the benefits of working in the wellness industry. They believe in being “products of the product,” so they all enjoy the Bod•ē Shakes, and Robert recently took the Bod•ē Challenge. “I’ve lost 30 pounds with Bod•ē,” says Robert.** “I feel so much better, and it’s been a real lifestyle change. I use the app, eat according to the program and take the products daily. Plus, I realized I’ve been saving $300 a month by not going out to lunch. Instead, I go to the park and have my shake.”
Robert says their biggest goal is to help make Vemma a billion-dollar company. “When the economy is down and Vemma is growing at 89%, you know you’re in the right place at the right time. We’re excited for what’s ahead!”
Success Tips from Robert Montiero
*The success or failure of each individual is dependent on their own efforts. The Company has generally expected results which can be obtained by visiting www.vemma.com.
**Results not typical, you may not do as well. Two pilot studies conducted by Vemma showed that 55 participants who followed the Vemma Bod•ē Transformation Plan for 12 weeks using Vemma Bod•ē Burn, Bod•ē Rest and Bod•ē Cleanse, lost an average of 14.8 pounds. Not all participants will complete the plan, or accurately follow the directions and guidelines of the plan. Vemma Nutrition Company recommends you follow a healthy approach to weight loss by consulting with your physician or healthcare provider before starting any new exercise, diet plan, nutrition or supplementation program, particularly if you suffer from any medical condition or regularly use prescription or over-the-counter medications. The Vemma Bod•ē products as part of the Vemma Bod•ē Transformation Plan should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and 10 minutes of daily exercise.

Success Tips from Robert Montiero
- Set tough goals. We have a goal to introduce 30 people a day to Vemma.
- Think of Vemma as a 3‒5 year plan. It takes most people this long to go through the learning curve you need to create a good income.
- Persevere. There are going to be tough days. Don’t give up.
- Help new people start earning money as soon as possible. I’ve seen that most will disengage from the business if they aren’t seeing success within the first five days.
- Personal development is a big thing. I’ve always been into this because of my corporate career, but I’ve stepped my game up and now Jana and I do personal development for an hour a day. Some favorites are John Maxwell, Tony Robbins and Eric Worre.
