My Research & Development Team receives frequent inquiries regarding the mangosteen and its history. I thought it would be helpful to share a list of frequently asked questions about Mangosteen with you, our valued Brand Partners.
- What is mangosteen? It’s a rare superfruit, grown in tropical countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and India, whose juicy white flesh is encased in a thick reddish-purple rind. Mangosteen’s deep grape/strawberry-like flavor is widely considered one of the best-tasting fruit in the world!
- How does mangosteen grow? Mangosteen trees grow 10 to 15 years before yielding fruit and bear fruit twice per year. A careful harvest of the fruit is crucial, as ripe mangosteen can be easily damaged.
- What are mangosteen’s health-promoting properties? The Mangosteen contains compounds called xanthones, a newly discovered class of highly biologically active plant nutrients with potent antioxidant capabilities. Antioxidants help protect cells from oxidative damage that occurs in the body when we overexert ourselves, or when we’re exposed to pollution, harmful chemicals and other impurities in the environment. The pericarp (rind) contains the most concentrated levels of xanthones which is why Vemma uses the whole fruit!
- What parts of mangosteen does Vemma use in its formula? We use multiple sources of wildcrafted mangosteen to provide the optimal levels of nutrients. This includes the reconstituted whole fruit including the pericarp and pulp, and a xanthone rich mangoteen extract obtained through a proprietary extraction process. Independent third-party testing has shown that Vemma products contain substantially higher levels of xanthones than our leading competitor!
- Is mangosteen available in the produce aisle? Fresh mangosteen is very delicate and rarely available for sale in the United States due to its relatively short period of ripeness. That’s one great reason to use Vemma!
