Choosing Vemma
“Since we’ve been in the industry for 27 years,” says Dave, “my wife Debbie and I know almost every network marketing company out there. Dave and Debbie had seen a lot of companies try and break into the young adult market, with little or no success. “I guess we were a bit skeptical,” says Debbie, “So we took our 21-year-old daughter Emily to Convention to test it out. We got there and it was amazing! There was crowd surfing and DJ-ing and so much energy. Our daughter loved it! She brought a few of her friends and they went right up front.” Debbie and Dave stayed in back, absorbing the energy and realizing that the Vemma opportunity could easily trump anything else they’d seen in the industry.* “After Convention, we jumped all over it and built our business to Presidential by September,” says Debbie. “Our goals now are focused on our team and helping them achieve what they want out of life. And their ‘whys’ are so incredible!”
Entrepreneurs at heart
“I’ve learned to recognize the importance of timing and opportunity,” says Dave, who showed keen entrepreneurial skills in his early twenties when he levered his experience as a rock drummer to start his own recording studio. Dave’s company was producing music videos for MTV by the time he met Debbie, a successful real estate agent with an entrepreneurial streak of her own. Despite Dave’s success as a music producer, he knew it wasn’t the kind of environment he wanted to raise a family in so he joined his first network marketing company soon after they were married.
Debbie says it took some convincing for her to join Dave’s newly formed ‘Reeder Marketing Team’ and overcome her initial skepticism about the industry. She tells the story of the first network marketing company Dave joined 27 years ago. “The company sold 7-foot rolls of aluminum foil — I’m not kidding! — which were useful for insulating your attic. Well, when Dave dragged that roll of foil in through the front door I was really against it. We lived in an apartment! I didn’t understand the industry, I didn’t want the product and I was really hard on Dave.” He tried for weeks to convince her to team up with him. In the end, it was the realization that network marketing could enable her to stay at home with their future children that convinced Debbie to jump in and give it her all. “My sister and I were raised as real latch-key kids, and I wanted to be the total opposite kind of parent for my kids, I guess. I wanted to be there after school for the kids, go to their ballgames and volunteer for class parties. I wanted to be the mom who showed up. So, that became my why in this business.”
Dave says at this point in their career, their goal is to be part of a legacy company. “That’s what attracted us to Vemma. I know how rare it is to find this kind of opportunity and momentum at the same time. BK is an incredible leader and very Brand-Partner-friendly. I’ve seen him consistently make decisions based on what’s best for the Brand Partners. There is no question in my mind that Vemma is going to become a billion dollar company.” Debbie agrees, adding that BK and his team know how to keep up in the industry and reinvent momentum. “It’s so important to have a product you can stay excited about,” says Debbie, whose new favorite product is ParTea. “We love Vemma’s focus on health and wellness. It’s emotional. When people feel better it goes from their head to their hearts.** We’ve never seen anything else that gets people 100% committed to the products.”
Success Tips from Dave and Debbie Reeder
- You must have a firm why.
- Get a good mentor. It’s not always the top earner in the company, but someone who has what you want in 6-12 months. Now learn from them and do what they do. Walk the walk and talk the talk.
- Be your own best employee. Learn how to manage yourself and your time. The majority of people will work hard one day, goof off for five days, and then freak out the last day.
- It’s easier to learn from other people’s experience, but when that fails: learn from your mistakes!
- Develop a team culture of support. We believe that a big part of our job will always be training and supporting new people.
- No matter how experienced you are in this industry, you can always learn something new. So many people want to be the experts, but to stay relevant in this industry we all need to stay teachable.
- Look at the success stories in Vemma. If they can do it, you can do it!
