When former elite gymnast Meghan McCurdy met pro body builder Troy Brown, it was more than love at first sight. It was also the beginning of a champion Vemma partnership destined for Elite. Both Meghan and Troy had reached expert levels in athletics (Meghan was on the Canadian National Gymnastics Team and was a competitive fitness athlete, and Troy is a former pro soccer player from London, England), but both found life outside athletics to be underwhelming. Tony and Meghan were seeking a way to bring the same level of achievement they found in sports into the rest of their lives. After a year of financial hardship, they met up with Linda Proctor and started a Vemma business. Four years into it, they’re at Presidential, teetering on Star Presidential, and can’t imagine their lives without Vemma.*
Learning from the best
“As athletes, we value the importance of a good coach, and we are so fortunate to be with Linda,” says Meghan, a native of Edmonton, Alberta. “We started studying Bob Proctor right away. We didn’t even need to research our decision that much — we knew based on the people who were involved with Vemma that it was definitely something we wanted to be a part of.” At the time, Vemma was new in Canada and things moved slowly. “I’m not going to lie — it was tough back then,” says Troy. “We had to grow as leaders. Neither of us had ever done anything like this before. Linda’s vision and her mentorship was everything to us.”
Meghan and Troy’s success with Vemma came piece by piece, as they built a strong and steady team in Alberta and then branched out. When they encountered obstacles, they dug deep and found the strength to keep going. Their training in sports taught them perseverance. “To get onto the Canadian National Gymnastics Team, it took 12 years of training, eight hours a day, six days a week,” Meghan says. “We did not have an overnight success story with Vemma, but let me tell you, getting into Vemma’s Elite was nowhere near as hard as that.* Our success in Vemma has come simply because we kept at it daily and we never gave up.” Troy agrees, “In sports, you learn this. You have a good day, you keep going. You have a bad day, and you keep going. I think that’s why so many athletes have what it takes to be successful in this. The other thing is that we looked to our coaches and we never, ever deviate from the system. We’re proof that the system works.”
Setting financial goals
“As an individual pro athlete, you often live on very little and you’re always trying to get endorsements and sponsorship,” says Troy. “When we first met, Meghan came to England with me for 8 weeks and she saw the real life of a pro bodybuilder.” Meghan had been working as a computer programmer to support her athletic competitions, so financial hardships were new to her. “Troy was a broke English bodybuilder,” says Meghan. “We slept on couches a lot and finances were really tight. You get to the point where your basic needs are not being met, and that’s hard.” It was at this point that they moved back to Canada and learned about Vemma. They decided that it was time to leave competition sports and start building a future together.
Finding their team sport at last
“Vemma has absolutely changed our lives,” says Meghan. “It has allowed us to become entrepreneurs, reach financial security in our mid 30’s, and build a business together.”* Troy agrees, adding that even when things were going slowly, they always knew that their business would take off at some point. “I believe this business will absolutely work if you put in the time and effort,” Troy says. “If we’d given up when things were tough, or when it wasn’t moving as fast as we’d like, we wouldn’t be here today. If you saw us four years ago, you’d see how much we’ve changed. We’ve accomplished a lot as athletes, but what we’ve achieved in sports is small compared to what we’ve achieved in Vemma.”*

- Find a mentor and be around them as much as you can.
- Form a habit of doing income-producing activities every day.
- Every morning, write down 10 things you’re grateful for every day. Then, ask for guidance. Finally, send love to three people that annoy you.
